On September 24, 2013 World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim and World Health Organization Director-General Margaret Chan co-convened a meeting of global health agency leaders on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly to discuss how to accelerate progress on shared agendas, including the health Millenium Development Goals. This was a follow-up to earlier meetings, including one during the April 2013 World Bank Group-International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings, where participants reaffirmed their commitment to the development effectiveness agenda through the International Health Partnership (IHP+) and agreed on seven behaviours which, if implemented, would bring visible results. During the meeting, participants discussed progress and obstacles on realizing the IHP+ principles, and proposed that agencies commit to joint action on one specific area: streamlining measurement of results and accountability.

Going forward, a group of senior focal points from each of the global health agencies chaired by the Director General WHO and supported by a joint secretariat between WHO and the World Bank will work with countries and other partners to develop a clear plan in the coming months.
